Akon Sued For Duping An Egyptian Singer

Akon has been served with a lawsuit by an Egyptian singer, Tamer Hosny for allegedly failing to appear on the singer’s single he spent so much money producing. According to the new lawsuit filed this week, Rapper Pitbullditched the song as well thanks to the Konvict star.

The famous Egyptian singer claims, after spending hundreds of thousands to produce the single, Pitbull and Akon, who were supposed to sing along inexplicably, vanished. Hosny says he paid Akon a whopping $300K for both singers to sing on his new hit, Arabian Knight.

Finding Fela, a documentary on the life of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is set to premiere at the 2014 Sundance Festival in the US.

Car bomb kills 19 in Borno

After a long lull, Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was in turmoil yesterday.
A car bomb killed 19 people and injured 40, according to witnesses.

But, it was not immediately clear who was responsible for the explosion, which destroyed cars and caused panic in the city.
The bomb, planted in a three-wheel rickshaw taxi, exploded outside the state television offices at around 1.30 pm (1230 GMT), witnesses told Reuters.

“My men counted 17 dead as at 2:00 pm and they are still counting. I have instructed my men to go to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the state specialist hospital to verify if there are others,” said Borno Police Commissioner Lawan Tanko.

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) has predicted that the strikes witnessed in the education sector in 2013 was not the end of industrial actions in the sector, as it would be hit by a barrage of strikes in all sub-sectors in 2014.

The union however notes that the strikes can be averted if the federal government, as a matter of urgency, begins to implement all its signed agreements with the various unions in the education sector. Majority of the agreements, NASU said, are already due for re-negotiation even though the contents of the subsisting agreements have not been fully addressed by the government.
