            Police nab Chinese for N105m fraud

The Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Ikoyi, Lagos State has arrested a Chinese fugitive, Fang Yang, for his involvement in a N105m fraud.

The SFU said Yang had  been declared wanted in China about 17 years ago for fraud perpetrated against the 2nd Sub Branch of China Agricultural Bank of Qingdao in 1996.

In a statement on Thursday by the SFU Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, the fraud was perpetrated when Yang was a Deputy Manager with Si Fang Qiao Lian Company in China.

It read in part, “The Chinese government through its consulate in Nigeria contacted the SFU on August 28, 2013, concerning a fugitive, Fang Yang, who ran away from China to Nigeria.

                  Truck crushes 12 in Ogun

No fewer than six people were feared dead, while six others were critically injured after a tipper driver rammed into roadside traders at old Ota Toll Gate in Ogun State.

 PUNCH Metro learnt that the accident, which happened around 11am on Thursday, was caused by brake failure.

Eyewitnesses said the sand-filled tipper marked STOCKINGER STEYR and with number plate JJJ 551 XB, ran into the traders who were selling pepper, oil and bread among others.

ASUU strike: NUT threatens to shut down schools

The Nigeria Union of Teachers on Thursday gave a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to end the strike embarked upon by lecturers in the nation’s public universities.

The NUT President, Mr. Michael Olukoya, stated this in Abuja at the end of the union’s meeting, NAN reported.

 ASUU, had since July 1, embarked on a strike it described as “comprehensive, total and indefinite.”

The lecturers are protesting against the non-implementation of an agreement they entered into with the Federal Government in 2009.

The two black Britons arrested for the murder of Lee Rigby, a British soldier have plead not guilty.
Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale both appeared at Old Bailey via videolink ahead of their trial.
The pair also each denied attempting to murder a police officer and conspiracy to murder.
Drummer Rigby, a father-of-one, was stabbed as he returned to the Woolwich barracks in southeast London on May 22.
The trial date has been set for November 18.
