Finding Fela, a documentary on the life of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is set to premiere at the 2014 Sundance Festival in the US.
Sundance Institute announced that the documentary is among the films and documentary selected to be screened in the out-of-competition premieres of the 30th Sundance Film Festival, which started January 16 and end Jan. 26 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
Finding Fela is directed by Oscar-winning director; Alex Gibney; produced by Jigsaw Productions alongside Knitting Factory Entertainment among others.
According to the documentary’s synopsis, Fela Anikulapo Kuti created the musical movement Afrobeat and used it as a political forum to oppose the Nigerian dictatorship and advocate for the rights of oppressed people. This is the story of his life, music, and political importance.
